Paul
Rolf is an artist who possesses natural talent and who has an almost
overwhelming desire to create marks, which is as natural to him as the
changing seasons and the passing of time. He has a natural feeling
with his materials which enables him to be completely loose and light
with his work, allowing him to get the most out of his creativity.
Paul
creates texture with Venetian plaster on a wood and canvass, working
it in such a way that it echoes rock and earth. Liquid metal, buffed
and treated with natural chemicals, liquids and iron create abstract
landscapes and explosions of naturally occurring colours like mint
green, rusty orange and deep black.
Each
piece is an organic process, where the artist and the work collaborate
together to create something which is greater than the sum of its
parts. It is work which is internal and external, reflecting the
complexity and simplicity of natural skill and technique with
improvisation and flow. He doesn’t always have a vision of the
finished piece, trusting the process, giving us flashes of ever
changing landscapes and glimpses of his inner self, reflecting aspects
of the viewer to themselves. His work has been commissioned and
collected by international art collectors. |
